In May 2025, Kathryn was invited to present at The Marketing Meetup in Newcastle.

Smiling woman stood in front of a screen which says The Marketing Meetup

She talked about the increased importance of brand personality and tone of voice, especially in the age of AI-generated content. She shared examples of how national and local brands are doing it and then shared five free/low-cost ways individuals or businesses could get started.

You can watch the full recording here:

The key takeaways were:

Brand peronality includes:

  • Visual Identity: Logo, colors, typography, imagery

  • Tone of Voice: The way the brand communicates, including language, style, and humor.

  • Marketing Communications: Advertising, social media, and other marketing campaigns

  • Brand Actions: How the brand behaves, its customer service, and its overall conduct.

You should prioritise Brand Personality because it:

  • Differentiates from competitors

  • Builds emotional connections

  • Enhances brand loyalty

  • Creates a memorable experience

Three examples of national brands that are doing it well:

  • Oatly

  • Monzo

  • Aldi

Three examples of local brands that are doing it well:

  • Greggs

  • One Strawberry Lane

  • Mean Eyed Cat

Five free/low-cost ways you can enhance your brand personality:

  1. Out of Office / Email Auto Reply

  2. Voicemail

  3. Social Media Account Titles/Headlines/Banners

  4. 404 web page

  5. Merch

Kathryn ends the talk by asking everyone to think about one action they are going to implement to enhance their brand personality. And, to share it with her via email or social media.
