About Kathryn and KLW Marketing

Hi, I’m Kathryn Wharton, and I believe marketing should be more than just flashy campaigns and catchy taglines. It should inspire, stand out, and ignite respect—not just attention. That’s why I created KLW Marketing: to help businesses craft bold, meaningful strategies that drive growth while elevating marketing as a respected and essential business function.

Based in North East England, we specialise in B2B marketing strategy, delivery and training, but our reach extends far beyond. Whether you’re a local business or a global organisation, KLW Marketing is here to deliver impactful solutions that resonate with your audience—wherever they are.

My journey to marketing wasn’t exactly linear (but who’s is?). I started out with a degree in archaeology, spending my early career immersed in the world of Egyptian mummies and prehistoric creatures. It was fascinating, but I knew there was more for me. A CIM course introduced me to marketing, and I was hooked.
​
From there, I spent 11 years in the museum world honing my skills in communication, digital marketing, and customer experience. Then, in a bold leap (timing it perfectly with a global pandemic—talk about risk-taker energy), I pivoted into the fast-paced world of tech.
​
I joined hedgehog lab, a digital product studio, where I developed a commercial mindset, led the marketing department, and created impactful strategies. My efforts were recognised when I won Rising Star at the North East Marketing Awards in 2021.
​
Next, I became European Marketing Manager at global digital consultancy Monstarlab, sharpening my expertise in strategic B2B marketing and launching global lead generation campaigns. Then came an exciting stint as Head of Marketing at experience design agency Qrious, where I led bold, creative initiatives—until the agency’s shock insolvency gave me the nudge I needed to create KLW Marketing in the summer of 2023.

That’s the short version of how I got here. But what matters most to me is what I’ve learned along the way: the value of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Those are the principles I bring to every client partnership.

When I’m not working with my amazing clients, you’ll probably find me wiht my head in a good book, running the Women in Tech North East CIC, mentoring the next generation of marketers, or playing netball.
