Kathryn Wharton set up KLW Marketing to build impactful marketing strategies for scaling businesses and support their implementation.

As an experienced, strategic marketer with expertise in the technology, culture and professional services sectors, Kathryn is driven by her values of curiosity, creativity and collaboration.

Kathryn’s story starts with a degree in archaeology. This led her to spend her days with Egyptian mummies and prehistoric creatures but she knew she had more potential. From a CIM course she fell in love with marketing.

Building on her 11 years in museums, she hopped, skipped and jumped into the technology sector. After a whirlwind four years of learning, drama, award wins and growing as a marketer, she set up KLW Marketing in Summer 2023. The story continues…

Here's what Kathryn has to say about her journey:

"After an incredible 11 year career in museum engagement where I laid the foundations of my expertise in communication, digital marketing and customer experience, I pivoted into the technology sector to pursue a career in B2B marketing.

Joining digital product studio, hedgehog lab, I quickly developed a commercial mindset and up-skilled to lead the marketing department. This led me to win Rising Star at the North East Marketing Awards in 2021.

I joined global digital consultancy, Monstarlab as European Marketing Manager which enhanced my strategic marketing skill set, before accepting a senior leadership role as Head of Marketing at experience design agency, Qrious.

Following the shock insolvency of the agency, it felt that the time was right to create KLW Marketing. It’s a bold move but, career pivoting into the technology sector just as the pandemic was consuming the world was also a bold move but I have thrived.

My curiosity, passion for people and unconventional career journey has enabled me to challenge the status quo and deliver stand out marketing.

When I’m not working with my clients, I’m either reading a book, running the Women in Tech North East community, supporting the next cohort of talent across the North East Universities or playing netball"

Every business should have a little bit of KLW Marketing in their world!
