"Kathryn was a great find and a brilliant part of the team. There was so much that impressed me about working with Kathryn - not least her team-wrangling abilities - but the stand-out achievement was her success in bringing us together with clients for our 'Thinking out Loud' interviews. We did more collaborative marketing under her watch than I'd seen us ever do before." - Charli Nordone, Chief Executive Officer

Background

The Writer, a brand language consultancy working with Fortune 100 companies like HSBC, Cisco, Google, and Unilever. They hired Kathryn on a part time basis, as interim Digital Marketing Manager to lead their marketing department during a maternity leave.

They needed an experienced marketer to create a strategy and manage the full scope of their marketing efforts. With a fully remote team, spread across the US and US, they needed someone with exceptional communication and organisation skills.

What we did

The Writer lacked a formal marketing strategy and relied on reactive efforts that didn’t align with business objectives. They also had no experience with account-based marketing (ABM) and needed processes put in place to engage key accounts. As the sole marketer, Kathryn's role required both strategic thinking and hands-on execution across content, social media, website management, webinars, data analytics, and budget monitoring.

Kathryn carried out a marketing audit to identify inefficiencies and opportunities. Using these insights, she created a focused marketing strategy aligned with the company’s goals. She introduced ABM processes and gained senior stakeholder buy-in by rationalising the plan’s benefits.

Real impact was created by developing compelling case studies, creating collaborative client video campaigns, and localising marketing efforts for the US and Asian markets to expand reach beyond the UK.

Impact

By the time Kathryn said goodbye:

  • Marketing campaigns generated over £175,000 in won opportunities and had £1.1 million in the pipeline.

  • Account-based marketing processes were introduced and adopted.

  • The team was equipped with a clear, actionable strategy.

  • Marketing activities were streamlined and globalised to include US and Asian markets.

This engagement transformed The Writer’s marketing, delivering both immediate results and a solid foundation for long-term success.
